A Meal in Jiaotong University

I had my first dinner in the mess hall ( Dining Room in the Campus) this evening, it tastes really good, and cost me only 5 RMB. In the past month,I never had a better dinner than this. Let me show you my diet in the last month:
Breakfast: fried noodleti(in Chines "You Tiao" ) 1 RMB + soybean milk 1RMB
Lunch: rice noodle (Guilin Mi Fen) 10 RMB or meal pack 10+ RMB
Supper: steamed dumpling 5+ RMB
For me, the most important meal is lunch, usually I have lunch in the basement of my office building, there are several restaurants, but their food is really distasteful and too much expensive for me, each time I spent more than 10 RMB there but never had a full meal. Sometimes I went to Guilin MiXian (rice noodle restaurant), it's a little far, but tastes better than food in basement, it also takes more than 10 RMB each time. Usually I will buy some extra food in the evening to keep my stomach from empty, it takes more than 10 RMB every day, so I spend about 30+ RMB everyday for eating, that's twice of the money when in the campus.
From tomorrow on, I will leave in my dormitory again, I got my PRP paper to write and some other things to deal with.

Summary of the Forth Week Internship

This week, my boss Didier and Bing are both on vacation, I sent Didier an email and received a auto reply saying that he is on vacation, if any emergency,  I can call his cell phone. I don't think my job need any emergent help from him, so there is no contact with him this week. All I can do is understanding each part of starter and alternator, but i still don't know the name of some parts, for starter, the Bossard code is still unidentified. Next week will be the last week to finish my job, I made a plan before leaving the office on Friday afternoon.

I'm thinking how to get my time occupied when on the train everyday, learn French sounds to be a good choice, I got to make a plan, there are still so many things to do. Mr Miao asked me and Xiongfang to finish our PRP report before 25th, August, I asked him to send me an email about the contents of the report, he didn't reply yet. Had a nice chat with HuiQiang this afternoon, he's company is developing very well, he gave me some nice suggestions about career. I made some questions after that, what else can I learn or know about in Valeo? Is there any chance to start my own business in the auto parts and components industry? How is it going from the source of material to the assemble ending? what's the career path if I stay in Valeo after graduation? Anyway, my dream is to have my own business someday.

Alternator and Startor

Finally, I learned all parts of alternator and stater, about two hundred parts, English name, Chinese name, their shape ,position, function, the process of manufacturing. There is still a long way to go, the bossard code of starter, the folding rule, the product board label, directors require results, before he comes back, I have to at least show him something. I don't want to here  "you are useless, i don't need you "   .
After having lunch in YOUZI LAOYa soup. with Jenny, I went to that store and bought a map, cost 90 RMB, it has the same vertical length as that India map Didier brought from India. There may not be enough room to hang two of them on the wall of VES zone.
Tired now, dad was drunk yesterday, he argued with Uncle Hong, they almost got into fight, I called him bakc this evening, but his battary was low, just few second later his phone was pow off.

This noon, Jenny and I went to the Foreign Book Store in Fuzhou Road, to check if there is any pure English China political map. Lipeng gave me 70 Yuan, I'll buy one tomorrow. This afternoon, I skipped away from the office for about an hour and a half, Yang Zhao came to see me, I took her to the basement of KingWorld, she doesn't like the smell there, then we went to Nanjing Road, a KFC, talk about everything but nothing, after that I went back to office and she went home in Pudong district.

Nang.song gave me the contract today, I signed and gave it back to her, after it's sealled with company stamp, I'll get a copy. The content  mentioned the payment, but no specific salary volume were stated.

Parcel From China to France

Lipeng asked me to mail a parcel to France, there was a post office about hundred meters down the cross at the gate of kingworld, packages are a little expensive,  the case was a bit large,  that worker in post office used two packages to package it, cost 35 Yuan, the forwarding fee from China to France by water ship cost 335 Yuan, it will take about a month to arrive France.

For the first time, i asked Pascal for help today, I asked him to give me the Bossard code of all the parts of VES, but he only works with alternator, for the starter,he gave me a name of another guy in Valeo, maybe in some division in France, Slama,  he works with starter.  Generally speaking, little progress this week, Didier will be back the week after next week.

I tried to learn some French, but really no interest at all, or may just have not enough time.

Nothing To Do

Everything goes back to the first week, want to do something, but soon find it's almost impossible, then stop and try another thing, reach the same result, then another.... I tried to sort all the parts of starter and alternator by subfamily in Bossard code, but only few parts like magnet and spring are feasible with this way, ask other staff in the department, no one can help me..they started to complain that why does Didier always give us mission impossible and meaningless.

A technical person from Huachuan die casting co. in Si chuan Province came to the office this afternoon, they appointed with Brazillians at about 3 to 5 pm to discuss some technical problems. Li seemed not like their appoitment very much, he sleap away right before that Huachuan guy arrived, and told me to play the interpretor role after Brazillians arrive. That guy waited in the meeting room for about half an hour,I asked him to check with Brazillians if they had arrived China, He though the meeting was arranged by us, actually it's arranged by their own company and Brazil. Later, he finallly figured out Brazillians went to SVES in Zhangjiang, so he moved there, my role as interpretor was eventually not played.

Forth Week in Valeo

When I arrived at office this morning, there was no one there, but it was already 9:10, usually there will be at least one or two persons there, I though they all went to business travel, because I wasn't there last week, I don't really know what's going on. If there will be only me in the office, god knows what I can do, I thought. Later, Lipeng and Lily came, then Yonghong and Liyu, Pascal and Zhouchen. Bing will be on vacation this week, Pang still has two or three more days training in SVES. I revised that checksheet at those points dicussed with Didier before. Actually not much progress today, Didier is not in the office, my work needs his instanse feedback, maybe I will send him email to discuss my work tomorrow.

Liyu said there will be someone from Brazil in APO tomorrow, a meeting between the Brazilian and a Sichuan boss may need a interpretor, Liyu asked me to play the role, I've never heard a Brazilian acsent before, hope it won't be too many jokes tomorrow.

Week Review

Last week was my third week in Valeo. On Monday, Michelle telephoned Song to have four days training in SVES, a manufacture site of electrical branch of Valeo in Shanghai, it was in Pudong district, about five minutes walk away from the Zhangjiang High Tech Station. Pang doesn't get much work to do, so the training was initially arranged only for her, actually I wanted to go to the manufactory very much, I thought maybe I could understand more about the process of the product in the manufactory. But I had other assignments and Song is in different function area from me. In the afternoon, I showed to my director my initial results, the check list of the folder contents of all suppliers, we discussed about it and he gave me some suggestions, he will be on vacation from this week till the third week of August, which means I get another week I can't get immediate feedback about my work. He needs a English version Chinese map, I went to Fuzhou Road, Shanghai's biggest art tool and book market, unfortunately, I didn' get a suitable map, those sold in stores are neither non-pure English version (they all got English and Chinese version) nor too large. Anyway I have to find a suitable map before my director comes back from France.

Though Pang.song and I are in different function areas, I finally got a chance to be trained in SVES together with her. So, from Tuesday on, I started my four days' training in that manufactory. Cause it's so far away from where I live, I live in ZhuBing's home, he is my classmate who is also doing his intern in Pudong district, he rents a house near Century Park, only a room about ten square meters cost him over eight hundred Yuan, we sleep on the floor at night, each morning, I got up at about 7:20, arrived in the manufactory at 8:30, then have training till 4:30 in the afternoon, we actually get off the manufactory at about 4:10 to avoid the rush hour of railway.

Manufactory's quality manager Mr. Gong received us and gave us training in the next four days, the training was actually very simple, just read some materials about quality, told us some tips of audit, the most exciting and useful thing we did in that manufactory was looking around in the production lines, which gave me more concrete concepts of the product and production. During those four days, Song and I spent more of our time on observing the production lines, its high automation, quality control procedure and incident quick response deeply impressed me.

The whole work station was composed of two parts, starter area and alternator area, starter and alternator are the only two products of the manufactory. For alternator, there are sub areas like stator assemble line, yoke assemble line, rectifier assemble, stator finish line, regulator assemble and final assemble, we have all the parts and components supplied by our suppliers, the manufactory's role is just assembler. For starter, it's more or less the same. About half of all the lines are fully automated, just material input person and package or deliver person are needed, those advanced equipments are mainly bought from Germany and Japan, most worth more than millions of US dollars each. The real inner sight of the high efficiency and effective is the advanced quality control system. Every line, at each process, there is a control pc, setting parameters for different model products, it also has the function of monitoring, if anything goes wrong, the red light will flash, and the unfinished components will not be allowed to flow to the next process stage. Red box are required by every human operational process, if any defect occurs, it will be put into the box, for each line, they have a QRQC(Quick Response Quality Control) plate, if any defect happens, it will be defined and analyzed within 24 hours. QRQC is the essence of the quality culture of Valeo, all staff including operators and management members are required to have QRQC training after on board. Each production cell has to have QRQC meeting every day to solve problems if there are any.

We visited the warehouse when Friday, they keep about two days inventory according to JIT production rules, because Valeo is a assembler, to pursue high quality, its parts and components' quality have to be guaranteed by its suppliers at every stage of the whole supply chain, from production in suppliers place to logistics, to delivering from Valeo's warehouse to assemble line, to packaging to Valeo's customer, all the process need to be controlled perfectly to achieve high quality and efficiency.

Yesterday, I joined BBY's intern experience sharing party. Two rules said by Walden were remembered:

What do managers want?

1.       Deliver creative results.

2.       Harmony and good cooperation with colleagues.
